WHEELING, W.Va., Oct. 4, 2017 -- Wheeling Jesuit University’s (WJU) family nurse practitioner, nurse education and RN to MSN master’s programs have received national recognition by two online ranking services.

SR Education Group, an education research publisher founded in 2004, ranked WJU’s nurse practitioner program (FNP) as one of the best and most affordable in the nation. Additionally, BestMastersDegrees.com named the university’s nurse education track and RN to MSN program among the most affordable in the country.nursing-web.jpg

“At Wheeling Jesuit, our nursing programs educate students to care for the mind, body and spirit of the patients entrusted in their care. This recognition of our masters’ programs shows our continued commitment to provide academically rigorous curricula at an affordable cost,” said Dr. Debra Townsley, president of Wheeling Jesuit.

According to SR Education 2018 rankings, WJU was the 23rd top online FNP program. The ranking group researched and analyzed accredited online schools across the nation, taking into consideration academic strength factors, as well as annual tuition rates to provide a list of colleges offering the best value to students. Inclusion on this list shows high academic standards and a commitment to affordability, two key factors important to prospective students.

As a most affordable program, SR Education ranked Wheeling Jesuit’s FNP program 21st. The 25 schools on this list offer the most affordable online nurse practitioner master's degrees and represent online schools across the nation that are making an effort to provide economical options for students.

“The personal attention students received through our online FNP faculty is unmatched and that’s what sets our program a part from others,” said Dr. Karen Fahey, director of the Family Nurse Practitioner program. “Our FNP track provides students a quality education, from faculty committed at an affordable price. We are invested in the education of students and want to see the students succeed.”

BestMastersDegrees.com ranked the 30 most affordable private college nursing education master’s programs and listed WJU’s as the 18th best in the country.

According to its director, Dr. Janet Bischof, “The nursing education track is an affordable option for nurses seeking to advance their education. While it is affordable, our graduates are finding employment at more than 90 percent following completion.”

BestMastersDegrees.com looked at approximately 60 private non-profit and for-profit colleges and universities listed by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) College Navigator which offer online master’s in nursing degrees with nursing education tracks, specialties, or concentrations in nurse education. The ranking service chose accredited schools and programs with graduate tuition prices under $25,000 annually, then listed the top 30 in order of affordability.

The ranking service also chose WJU’s RN to MSN online program as the 32nd most affordable in the country.

“The rankings by these services recognizes our programs’ strong academic standards and faculty who are dedicated to providing personalized instruction. The Wheeling Jesuit graduate nursing programs offers small classes that allow for individualized attention. Small class sizes allow our faculty the time to critique the assignments in an attempt to provide feedback to each student personally and not just to the group,” said Dr. Maryanne Capps, director of WJU’s Nursing Department.

BestMastersDegrees.com looked at about 135 accredited institutions listed by NCES that offer online RN to MSN programs with tuition and fees under $30,000. From that list, BestMastersDegrees.com chose the most affordable programs and ranked them accordingly. The ranking service said WJU’s program is designed to meet the needs of working registered nurses.
